Nguyễn Trung

Họa sĩ Nguyễn Trung (sinh năm 1940, Sóc Trăng) được xem là một “tiêu mẫu” điển hình cho những ai muốn nghiên cứu quá trình phát triển của nghệ thuật miền Nam Việt Nam từ giữa thế kỷ 20 đến nay (theo Tạp chí Mỹ Thuật số tháng 4, 2018). Từ những năm đầu của sự nghiệp, thành công đến khá sớm với Nguyễn Trung.

 

Ông liên tiếp đạt giải Bạc và Vàng các triển lãm Mùa Xuân năm 1960, 1963. Kể từ đó, ông liên tục mang nhiều vai trò, từ chủ tịch Hội Họa Sĩ Trẻ ở Sài (1969-1973), đến “ngọn cờ đầu” của “Nhóm 10 người” ở TP. Hồ Chí Minh (1989-1996). Ngoài giá vẽ, ông còn là một cây viết năng nổ, cùng Ca Lê Thắng sáng lập và biên tập tờ Tạp chí Mỹ Thuật của Hội Mỹ Thuật TP. Hồ Chí Minh từ năm 1991 – 1997.

Giới sưu tập săn lùng tranh biểu hình (figurative) (giai đoạn từ 1961-nay); giới nghiên cứu nghệ thuật đương đại cả trong và ngoài nước có vẻ hứng thú hơn với các tác phẩm trừu tượng (abstract) (giai đoạn từ 1990-nay); còn Bảo tàng Mỹ thuật Việt Nam, đến thời điểm này, vẫn chỉ tập trung vào hai tác phẩm “Trận tuyến mới” (1976) và “Chân dung người lính” (1984) để “kết nạp” Nguyễn Trung vào đội ngũ họa sĩ “có xu hướng sáng tác theo chủ nghĩa hiện thực xã hội”. 

 

Gần 60 năm thực hành và để lại dấu chân trong mỗi thời kỳ mình bước qua, nhưng Nguyễn Trung cho đến tận hôm nay dường như vẫn đang loay hoay tự giải thoát thực hành của mình ra khỏi những xiềng xích, mà một trong những gông cùm lớn nhất chính là những thành tựu do chính ông tạo dựng trong quá khứ.

1940 Born in Soc Trang. Nguyen Trung is often viewed as one of the most influential and respected artists living in Vietnam today. He has the great ability to create well-organized texture in his works, paired with a balance and steadiness in his ideas. Strong, decisive individuality and a high sense of purpose are the determinant factors making up Nguyen Trung’s art. Over the last decade, Trung has initiated a new current in Vietnamese art. It is abstract art, based upon strict European rationalism, placed within an Oriental philosophical space.

 

He is also one of the outstanding representatives of painting of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) both before 1975 and at the present. Co-organizer of the Saigon Association of Young Painters in the 70″s. Gradually his early abstract-style painting took on the clear figures of realism, but his recent return to abstraction has been marked by a refined technique in terms of light and material. He is also one of the few living Vietnamese artists whose works are regularly sold at international auctions. His works are in collections such as the prestigious collection of the Vietnamese Fine Art Museum, the Singapore Art Museum and the Bassano del Grappa Fine Art Museum (Italy).
